18 December 2017, 08:00 - 28 December 2017, 17:00
Almacén, inaugurated the last August, is a cultural center, a gallery, a meeting point. A space to create, to connect, and interact with the community. A place to dream, They loved to proclaim themselves.
Its name comes from the Arab word ‘al-makhzan’ (المخزن) ,storage space, which the Spanish adopted. The name also meaning a store or storage space, hence the Hebrew word ‘Machsan’. Indeed, Almacén is function as a multi-disciplinary storage space, in which various activities are taking place: exhibitions, music shows, symposiums, workshops, lectures and various encounters for and with the local and international community.
Thus, the location, is modularly designed, so that it can quickly change it skin, and adjust to different publics and functions. It also includes a fully equipped kitchen, and is hosting cooking workshops and culinary events. Almacén was conceived as an expression of its location, and is joining the opposite Anna Loulou bar, in an attempt to function as a space for organic interaction between the neighbourhood’s residents and its guests.
Almacén was established by Malu Zayon and Yaniv Lachman. Zayon immigrated to Israel from Cuba, studied journalism and communication in Cuba and film studies in Israel, and is active as a producer and independent creator in the fields of performance, photography and video. Lachman is a graduate of CECC School of Film Studies, Barcelona, a director, producer and social entrepreneur.
They have a dream to bring artists from all over the world to collaborate with locals, starting from the nearest neighbors, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria…and going farther as Cuba or Japan.
